Crochet a Skull Scarf! #TBCCrafters

 

October winds are blowing and snack sized bags of candy is on sale. This means that Halloween is coming! What better way to celebrate than with a crocheted scarf inspired by a skull pattern found on the website Crochet Nirvana!

 

 

For this pattern you will need to know how to do the following stitches which I shared YouTube videos to help familiarize yourself with the stitch.

Supplies I used to recreate the skull:

• Worsted Weight in black and white (or whatever colors you want to use)
• Size J hook (the pattern calls for an “F-5/375 mm hook but I wanted my skulls a little bigger)
• stitch marker
• Tapestry Needle
• scissors or a mail cutter

 

The pattern on Crochet Cabana is excellent. Robin even provides a step by step pictorial for how to make the pattern! My skills as a crocheter are pretty decent but I made a few adjustments to the pattern to accommodate the way I stitch.

 

Some tips and tricks:

• When working the top of the skull, decrease rows 2-4. I found doing slip stitches as the pattern is written caused uneven edges while decreasing created a rounder edge.
• Weave your tails of yarn as you go! I made ten skulls and found weaving in all of the bits and pieces of yarn annoying!
• When working the bottom of the skull, row three calls for two slip stitches and then a chain four. I did THREE slip stitches and then chained four in the last slip stitch.
• When stitching the skulls, I used black yarn.  I like the finished look better.
