Easy Home Decor Sign Project

Thank you to Sarah for sharing this easy home decor sign project with The Blogger Connection today.

As a busy mom, I know that finding home decor that reflects your own personal style can be rather time consuming. I don’t have time to run from store to store searching for home decor that reflects who I am and what I believe. I love this easy home decor sign project that Sara came up with to decorate her home. This craft can be made rather inexpensively and the end result is stunning.

Easy Home Decor Sign Project

Signs come in all shapes and sizes.  There are so many ways to make your own easy home decor including scrap wood, drawer fronts from broken drawers, pallets, old plaques, and more.  Today I am going to share with you a very special sign to showcase your children.

I started with a piece of scrap wood from a broken table that split into pieces.  I painted it grey.  Once it was dry, I chose a phrase suitable for my topic.  “Every good and perfect gift is from above” James 1:17

The paint I use is a DIY chalk paint consisting of latex paint, plaster of Paris, and hot water.  I mix the plaster of Paris with hot water so it is very smooth.  I then mix the plaster of Paris paste into the latex paint of my choice.  It should be 3 parts paint to 1 part plaster of Paris mix.

I printed this verse in a font I liked and in a size that would cover the board I am using.

Flip the paper over and color with pencil over where the words are on the other side.

Place the words where you want them on your board and trace with a pen.  This will transfer the pencil to your board so you can paint it in with your choice of paint color.

I chose 3 knobs I had and painted them black. They were attached just like any drawer pull.  Drill a hole and attach the bolt.

I painted a set of 3 frames black to match the words on the sign.  I used some pretty ribbon to hang the frames from.

Once it was all put together, the finished product looks like this.  (Minus the photos in the frames)

I hope you enjoyed this post and get inspired to make your own sign.  Do you have any sign tips you would like to share?  Please do!
